Slimbridge Wetland Centre has everything you need for a family friendly day out, and a visit is a must. The Centre was set up in 1946 by Sir Peter Scott as a wetland conservation haven, and this is still the main focus for the work. A wide range of water birds from around the world are on show and you can get close to them and even feed them yourself. This year’s Crane School has some delightful pupils, and you can join talks on both this and on the colourful flamingos.

The Centre is constantly changing with the seasons. In Spring there are fluffy ducklings to see, and in the winter months commentated swan feeds in the early evening are a real spectacle.

Be more active in the summer by paddling your own canoe on a Canoe Safari through a section of the reed beds, or by visiting Welly Boot Land, a dynamic children’s play area with water based activities.

And if it’s wet outside, there is plenty to do inside. Come to Toad Hall and meet a range of amphibians, or take part in one of the children’s craft activities. Displays of art inspired by wildlife which change through the year offer additional interest.

Add to all these activities a restaurant well known for the high quality of its catering,  and designated picnic areas in different parts of the grounds, and you have all the ingredients for a fantastic day out for all the family. Do come and visit!
